Spy smear pushes Labour polling UP . . .

Tory MP Ben Bradley sparked outrage last week with a baseless, tweeted accusation that Jeremy Corbyn had ‘sold British secrets to communist spies’. The tweet prompted a letter to Bradley from Corbyn’s lawyers, insisting that Bradley issue an unreserved apology, ask his followers to share it and make a significant donation to charities of Corbyn’s choice – or face court action.

Bradley rapidly deleted his ill-judged tweet.

But today Bradley did everything that Corbyn had demanded, in a humiliating climbdown. Spot the keywords it’s believed Corbyn’s lawyers insisted he repeat to an embarrassing degree:

Labour Polling Goes Up!

Ben Bradley Climbdown and Apology to Jeremy Corbyn

It’s nice to see at least one Tory facing up to his lies – although this has only happened because of the sheer amount of proof that it was a lie, and because Jeremy Corbyn had finally had enough of the Tory out-and-out lies; the smear campaigns brought by both the Tories, and the right-leaning MSM that he is a Communist Spy, that he sold secrets to the Czechs, and every other false news they could think of to cause him harm!

The continuous barrage of contempt that the Tories have spewed at Jeremy Corbyn, especially since he was voted in as Leader of the Labour Party, is totally beyond the Pale, and the blackening of this gentle man’s name is a shame, and disgrace, for Westminster as a whole – as nothing at all has been done to curb the vituperation expelled by the Tory Party, at a man blameless of all their cowardly lies!

Jeremy Corbyn is a man who is trying to help us all out of this nightmare of  an Ideological-driven forced Austerity – but the apology was only made because Bradley was so totally caught out in his lies!

What we need now is for Bradley to quit, although I can’t ever see any Tory admitting to their wholesale  slandering of Jeremy Corbyn since he was voted in as Labour leader!

We all know that, if the Tories sacked everyone in their party who has been caught out in such rotten – and sustained – lies, then the whole party, including May, who lies continuously to the British Public, would have to resign!

And the real Irony of it all?

Rather than making the British Public hate Jeremy Corbyn, as the Tories had hoped, the sheer avarice of the Tory Party as a whole; their greedy selling off of our publicly funded NHS to US medical firms; and their nasty, dirty, deals that have been brokered to anyone they could sell our publicly owned treasures to, has been exposed, and Jeremy Corbyn has got to the attention of so many more people, who might not have bothered about politics before Austerity was forced on us all, and so people have started looking into this totally unfair smearing campaign, and seen the truth beneath the lies – and I’m proud to be one of them!

Figures show: No other govt has invested less additional cash in NHS than this . . .

The government’s fall-back when challenged over its failure on the NHS, as worse winter crisis follows winter crisis, is to fall back on its claim that it has ‘put more money into the NHS’ and is spending ‘record amounts’.

Given that any increase represents a new record, the claim is meaningless – the Tories have increased health budgets by far less than the last Labour government and at a completely inadequate level for the needs of the service, as the ongoing A&E crisis and even a recent BBC report demonstrate.

The public is beginning to get wise to the dodge, as the recent reception faced a Tory Minister on a BBC Question Time programme in a Tory heartland demonstrated.

But a far greater increase in awareness is needed – and as a picture paints a thousand words, this may be helpful:

It isn’t over yet for Theresa May – but her time is nearly up . . .

It seems that 40 MPs have written to the chair of the Conservative 1922 committee, Graham Brady,

If another eight write to him, it will trigger a leadership election in the Conservative Party. Nobody else is strong enough to lead the Tories; they are divided and weak.

So it seems unlikely that any other Tory will gain the 159 votes needed to displace her.

This time.

Both Margaret Thatcher and John Major have seen off confidence votes, according to the New Statesman, quoted below. So can Theresa May – for now.

But Mr Brady hasn’t seen those 48 letters yet, and matters can change in politics, in a very short time.

Let’s hope this becomes a fact, before May totally ruins this country, for the vast majority of people, purely for her own greed, and those of her super-rich cronies 😦

The UK government was just found to have violated disabled people’s ‘basic’ human rights. Again . . .

On Wednesday 24 January an international body reported that the UK government had breached the legal human rights of sick and disabled people. This is now the fifth such report to state this in just 20 months.

The ECSR

A report [pdf “ECSR conclusions for 2017 – UK”] from the European Committee of Social Rights (part of the Council of Europe) details whether the UK government was meeting its legal obligations under the European Social Charter The UK signed up to the Charter in July 1996 [pdf, p3]. It covers fundamentalhuman rights, including those related to employment, housing, health, education, social protection and welfare.

The report covered [pdf, p3] the years 2012 to 2015. And overall, it found the UK government was breaching its legal obligations in two areas.

Failing on welfare

The first breach was of Article 12, the right to social security. The committee found [pdf, p19-22] that many welfare benefits – including Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) – were “manifestly inadequate”. That is, people were not getting enough money to live on and were being left in poverty.

The committee made a point [pdf, p19] of noting that in response to a previous report where it had raised this issue, the UK government:

contests this finding… arguing that the benefit rates are considered in isolation, without taking into account the safety net of other benefits and credits available.

But the committee once again disagreed. It said [pdf, p20] that all the benefits mentioned left people below the poverty line, even with “other benefits and credits”. Therefore, this is an automatic breach of the Charter [pdf, p20].
