The Day Our Freedoms Are Curtailed . . .

Well, this is an historic moment, that leads to our freedoms being curtailed until after the Corona Virus is beaten – but, with the government we have at present, I worry about how much of it will be handed back at the end?

I guess only time will tell! :/

Boris Johnson’s TV address in full:

Good evening,
The coronavirus is the biggest threat this country has faced for decades – and this country is not alone.
All over the world we are seeing the devastating impact of this invisible killer
And so tonight I want to update you on the latest steps we are taking to fight the disease and what you can do to help.
And I want to begin by reminding you why the UK has been taking the approach that we have.
Without a huge national effort to halt the growth of this virus, there will come a moment when no health service in the world could possibly cope; because there won’t be enough ventilators, enough intensive care beds, enough doctors and nurses.
And as we have seen elsewhere, in other countries that also have fantastic health care systems, that is the moment of real danger.
To put it simply, if too many people become seriously unwell at one time, the NHS will be unable to handle it – meaning more people are likely to die, not just from coronavirus but from other illnesses as well.
So it’s vital to slow the spread of the disease.
Because that is the way we reduce the number of people needing hospital treatment at any one time, so we can protect the NHS’s ability to cope – and save more lives.
And that’s why we have been asking people to stay at home during this pandemic.
And though huge numbers are complying – and I thank you all – the time has now come for us all to do more.
From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction – you must stay at home.
Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households.
That is why people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:
shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
one form of exercise a day – for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household;
any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.
That’s all – these are the only reasons you should leave your home.
You should not be meeting friends. If your friends ask you to meet, you should say no.
You should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home.
You should not be going shopping except for essentials like food and medicine — and you should do this as little as you can. And use food delivery services where you can.
If you don’t follow the rules the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings.
To ensure compliance with the government’s instruction to stay at home, we will immediately:
close all shops selling non-essential goods, including clothing and electronic stores and other premises including libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship;
we will stop all gatherings of more than two people in public – excluding people you live with;
and we’ll stop all social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies, but excluding funerals.
Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed.
No prime minister wants to enact measures like this.
I know the damage that this disruption is doing and will do to people’s lives, to their businesses and to their jobs.
And that’s why we have produced a huge and unprecedented programme of support both for workers and for business.
And I can assure you that we will keep these restrictions under constant review. We will look again in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows we are able to.
But at present there are just no easy options. The way ahead is hard, and it is still true that many lives will sadly be lost.
And yet it is also true that there is a clear way through.
Day by day we are strengthening our amazing NHS with 7,500 former clinicians now coming back to the service.
With the time you buy – by simply staying at home – we are increasing our stocks of equipment.
We are accelerating our search for treatments.
We are pioneering work on a vaccine.
And we are buying millions of testing kits that will enable us to turn the tide on this invisible killer.
I want to thank everyone who is working flat out to beat the virus.
Everyone from the supermarket staff to the transport workers to the carers to the nurses and doctors on the frontline.
But in this fight we can be in no doubt that each and every one of us is directly enlisted.
Each and every one of us is now obliged to join together.
To halt the spread of this disease.
To protect our NHS and to save many many thousands of lives.
And I know that as they have in the past so many times.
The people of this country will rise to that challenge.
And we will come through it stronger than ever.
We will beat the coronavirus and we will beat it together.
And therefore I urge you at this moment of national emergency to stay at home, protect our NHS and save lives.
Thank you.

Unite to back mandatory selection at Labour conference . . .

unitelogo

After the appalling behaviour of a number of Labour MPs recently and the closure of the case against Margaret Hodge, who has denied expressing regret when the Labour Chief Whup confirmed twice that she had done so and had received a formal warning and the case was closed on that basis, huge numbers of Labour members have been demanding ‘mandatory reselection’ (MR) of Labour MPs.

Under Labour’s current rules, existing MPs can only be removed by means of a complex ‘trigger ballot’ process, in which members’ influence is hugely diminished compared to that of affiliated unions and socialist societies, who can usually protect an incumbent if they wish to do so.

Under mandatory reselection, members would vote on an ‘OMOV’ (one member, one vote) basis and the process would be refreshed at every general election – empowering members and vastly increasing the accountability of MPs to them.

Now members have received a huge boost with the news that Unite, one of the UK’s biggest unions and one of the most influential in the Labour Party, intends to back moves to introduce MR at Labour’s annual conference next month in Liverpool – and that even if the measure fails, a push is planned to use the trigger ballot process to replace MPs that have been undermining the party’s push for power.

A senior Unite insider told the SKWAWKBOX:

‘Mandatory reselection is our policy so expect us to push this at the conference. If it didn’t get through I would expect us to be actively looking to use the trigger process.’

Unite to back Mandatory Selection at Labour Conference

COMMENT:

I was delighted to read this post by Skwawkbox, especially as it has given me a greater hope that we members will be able to get back the correct amount of control that we should have had, especially of the way that MP’s are voted into Seats, and who they should be listening to when they get there, where Party Policy is concerned.

Rather than having to put up with right-leaning Labour MP’s, who are not listening to the people who voted them in to their positions, and are deliberately going against the vast majority of the Member’s wishes – all while doing their best to push out the one man, Jeremy Corbyn, that so many thousands of us had joined the Party for in the first place – as we see in him a hope for the future, where he becomes our next Prime Minister – we now see the possibilities of having the chance to make sure that those same MP’s are given the choice to either toe the Party line  or, if they choose to  go against the majority of the member’s wishes, especially if it’s to do with Party policy, then they can – and will – be voted out of their seats, and we’ll find someone else to be given the chance to help get our Party back into the driving seat again – but, this time, all for the good of the Many, not the Few! 🙂

Whether Unite succeed in getting enough other Unions behind this, we’ll have to wait and see – but their actions show us that our patience has not been in vain, and that hope is still alive for a better future than we can see at the moment!

With enough of us fighting for what we believe Jeremy Corbyn can do for us – and the country – then it’s going to be a bumpy, but exciting ride!

If Jeremy Corbyn makes a speech on anti-Semitism, perhaps this is what he should say . . .

Corbyn’s Labour has been attacked by the anti-Semitism trolls over the last few days.

This Writer is looking forward to his speech – expecially if it takes the angle chosen by a Labour Party spokesman when pro-Tory-pressure-group-pretending-to-be-a-charity the Campaign Against Antisemitism tried to complain about Mr Corbyn (again).

He said [boldings mine]: “Labour is committed to rooting out antisemitism from our party and society. False and partisan attacks like this undermine the fight against antisemitism.

The Milk the Cow Podcast has made a few suggestions which are far too strong to publish unedited here. Those of you of strong character can see the original by following this link.

For the rest of you, I’ll paraphrase . . . . . . .

Comment:

The continuous attacks on Jeremy Corbyn, which started even before he won the leadership of the Labour Party, has been constant, brutal, and totally and utterly uncalled for, especially by those right-leaning MP’s in his own party who, through pique, greed, or sheer bloody-mindedness, have decided to do the job that the Tories and the Media have tried to do since he came into office – which is to try and get rid of him.

The Reason?

Because Jeremy Corbyn has got the fire, the will, and the decency that so many Tory, and right-leaning Labour, MP’s haven’t got!

Jeremy has consistently fought against any kind of oppression, no matter where it was, or who was doing it, and he has done this throughout his political life – and that’s why so many hundreds of thousands of us voted him in as the leader of the Labour Party because, for the first time in far too many years, we see a man who can lead this country away from the disasters that the Tories have brought on us, through their greed, dishonesty, and their belief that, because they are rich, then they should be able to do as they please, strip our public services, our land, and our future – and we should bow down our heads, and allow these selfish, amoral, people to do with us, and our country, what they wish to – because, don’t forget, people, there are a damn sight more of us than there are of them, and so it is our country!

We’ve all seen where their leadership has led us, despite the Media blackout of real news!

The deaths of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people who have had the small amount of money they have to live on be taken away, because ‘they are just not trying hard enough’ to get a job – and this, in a country where the elite have managed to kill almost all  of our industries through their greed for ever more profits!

The destruction of OUR NHS – and, yes, it IS ours! Bought and paid for with our grandparents, parents, and our, hard-earned taxes. All of this has been brought about through the deliberate financial starvation of the NHS, by the elite, because they are planning to almost give it away to their Billionaire pals, who own the private medical businesses around the world that most of the tories probably own shares in, and so plan to earn yet another fortune, off the backs of the poor, once more!

Our NHS will be privatised, and stolen away from us, and the dream that our forefathers had, to make sure that none of their children and grandchildren would die through a lack of free medical care – which is something our grandparents saw all too brutally, in the days when we had no National Health Service, and where, if you didn’t have the money, you didn’t get the care!

And then we have the disaster called Brexit!

When all those MP’s went out with their campaign buses, with the lie that the money saved from going for Brexit will be used to fund the NHS, so many people fell for it, that nobody actually questioned the figures being spouted by these cleverly deceitful liers – and so the country voted for Brexit – and spat in the eye of the hundreds of thousands of European people who live and work here in Britain – mainly in our much-loved NHS – people who are our friends, our neighbours, our loved ones, our family! And so we told them that they weren’t wanted any more – we’d used them, and spat them out again, like so much discarded gum!

And so we truly have got the government we deserve – one that will keep squeezing people until they can’t bear it any more, one that will keep killing the poor, the old, the vulnerable, until we go back where we are considered as serfs, just like in the past, where the super rich owned everything – because they stole it from us all in the first place – and where they will dictate to us when we can eat, sleep, breath and, most importantly for them, work all the hours of the day and night, all for their bid for even more wealth – and we’ll watch the future of our earth be laid to waste – all in the bid for more obscene profit! 😦

But I don’t believe we deserve a government like that!

I believe we deserve a government who look after it’s poor, it’s ill, it’s weak, it’s elderly, it’s vulnerable – and who look after the people who work hard for little wages, but want to build a better society for their children, and their children’s children – just like our grandparents did for us!

And the only way we’re going to get a government like that, is to stop believing the lies thrown at us every day by this tory government – and the media they control – and listen to Jeremy Corbyn and his cabinet-in-waiting, and then vote Labour in the next election!

Because the Tories are only looking after themselves – they always have, and they always will do! 😦

So, the next time you have a chance to listen to Jeremy Corbyn, and the people in his Cabinet, listen closely to what they are saying – and not what the Media twist it into – then think about what you want this country – and even this world – to be like for your children, and theirs, and let’s get rid of the poison that has slowly been killing our people, our country, and the Democracy our forefathers fought so hard for in the first place!

Labour Party 2018 Rule Book!

The Skwawkbox has just posted the link to download the Labour Party’s 2018 rule book, something every member – and potential member – should read as thoroughly as they can, if only so that we can protect our democracy!

But we also need to keep abreast of the rules, in order to keep those members, who are right-leaning, from taking over once again!

Here’s the link for the Swawkbox post’s Rule Book download:

It isn’t over yet for Theresa May – but her time is nearly up . . .

It seems that 40 MPs have written to the chair of the Conservative 1922 committee, Graham Brady,

If another eight write to him, it will trigger a leadership election in the Conservative Party. Nobody else is strong enough to lead the Tories; they are divided and weak.

So it seems unlikely that any other Tory will gain the 159 votes needed to displace her.

This time.

Both Margaret Thatcher and John Major have seen off confidence votes, according to the New Statesman, quoted below. So can Theresa May – for now.

But Mr Brady hasn’t seen those 48 letters yet, and matters can change in politics, in a very short time.

Let’s hope this becomes a fact, before May totally ruins this country, for the vast majority of people, purely for her own greed, and those of her super-rich cronies 😦

SKWAWKBOX 2017 in review: exclusives, narratives, impact and more . . .

To read the rest of the Post below, please click here:

It’s been quite a year. At the beginning of 2017, the SKWAWKBOX was a relatively unknown publication that had made enough splashes since its reboot in late summer 2016 to be listed as ‘one to watch’ for the new year.

skwawkbox news at ten

By the end of 2017, it had one of the highest profiles among the ‘new left media’ (NLM), was one of the most often maligned – and copied – by the mainstream media (MSM) and had featured on the front pages of most MSM papers, as well as frequently on the BBC and other channels and was described, inaccurately, as ‘the unofficial organ of the Labour leader’s office.

2017 saw a seismic shift in the political landscape and Labour now stands on the cusp of an historic victory that will herald a new direction not seen since 1945. Skwawkbox has been there every step of the way.

Skwawkbox has been an essential compendium for anyone interested in the Labour Party’s policy direction. It has regularly broken news about Labour’s internal machinations as the party transitions from more than two decades of the discredited New Labour era to the progressive socialist future yearned for by hundreds of thousands of members and millions of supporters.

Skwawkbox champions the democratic rights of grassroots party members and will play an increasingly important role in 2018 as the public are increasingly inspired by the policy agenda articulated by Jeremy Corbyn.

Conservative MPs accuse citizens of ‘scaremongering stories’ about experiences of Universal Credit.

Once again, Kitty Jones hits the nail on the head with this post:

via Conservative MPs accuse citizens of ‘scaremongering stories’ about experiences of Universal Credit.

I really don’t understand how so very many ordinary working – and non-working – people are being hoodwinked into voting for a party that are idealogically driven, and are all for the Elitist Rich?

This is a party who are driving poverty levels in the UK into the ground – to levels not seen since Victorian times!

The constant eroding of our Human Rights is barely being spoken of.

Our Economy is rapidly sliding down the drain, along with any of the Industries that had made the UK a leader in the past, and which are, once again, desperately needed, if we’re to build our country’s economic future on a firmer footing than the tory Tax Haven ideals.

The gap between the Very Rich, and the (so-called) undeserving Poor, has never been so wide.

Yet, where are the outcries about the gradual attrition of our hard-won Democracy – fought for by our grandparents, and their parents and grandparents before them – and bought on the backs of loss and pain?

All we need now, is for the terrors of the Work House to be brought back once again – something our forebears fought long and hard to abolish in the first place – and then we’ll see the completion of our lives being deliberately regressed back in time – where the Rich Elite have every bit of power, and the poor work for a pittance – and still starve!

Considering the thousands upon thousands of unnecessary deaths, due to the Tory-led DWP’s ideological attritions, which have created an ever-increasing result of Homelessness, which then leads on to Starvation, Chronic Ill Health, Disability, and then death, to so very many citizens of the UK – and all of this taking place under a very silent Mainstream Media (unless they are screaming that their Tory paymasters are being lied about, of course)!

These are things that were first introduced by the Tory-Lite Blairites, thus heralding the decomposition of an effective Opposition Party, and making it even harder for this new Jeremy Corbyn-led Labour Party, to fight against this pernicious, and machiavellian,  disease of tory greed and corruption!

The fact that, since the tories took power, and insisted on introducing their ‘made to fail’ Universal Credit,  it shows that we really have already reached the pits of despondency and despair!

So much for ‘scaremongering’ 😦
